David L. Shillady

David L. Shillady, 78, of Muhlenberg Township, died Thursday the 15th of September, 2016 at home. For 54 years he was the husband of Ethyl I. Shillady.

Born in Reading, PA on October 6th, 1937, he was a son of the late William W. and Arlene E. (Miller) Shillady.

He was one who attended all of the schools on North 13th St. in Reading, PA; 13th and Union, Northeast Junior High School, Reading High School, and Albright College.  He graduated from Wyomissing Polytechnic Institute, United States Air Force Digital Computer School and the National Technical School in Los Angeles.  He proudly served in the United States Air Force for 4 years.

David spent over 50 years as a technician, engineer, and a home builder/remodeler.  He retired in 2003 from industry as the Director of Engineering and Maintenance at NGK Berylco.  He was a member of the Instrument Society of America for 45 years.  He designed and built two solar homes in the 80’s. He attended Olivet Reformed Church for over 50 years.

He was an avid Penn State, Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies fan, and loved crosswords and playing solitaire.

David was one of the founders of the Cartech Federal Credit Union, spent 7 years as a Boy Scout Leader, and 7 years as a baseball and basketball coach in the Muhlenberg Township Athletic Association.

He is survived by his wife Ethyl I. (Moyer); brother, the Reverend Dr. William S., husband of Judith Shillady, of New York; three children, Stacey L., wife of John Mikatavage; Scott D. Shillady; and Shaun C., husband of Colleen M. (McHale) Shillady.  He is also survived by five beloved grandchildren, Andrew Mikatavage, Amanda (Mikatavage), wife of Brian Crow, Taryn, Connor, and Brandon Shillady as well as two nieces and spouses, five grandnieces and nephews. 

David was preceded in death by his brother, Robert W. Shillady. 

A memorial service will be held on Saturday September 24th at 11:00 a.m. at Olivet Reformed Church, 1648 Centre Avenue, Reading, PA 19601.  A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service in the church.  Burial will be a private service at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
