Edward H.J. Reese

Edward Henry Joseph Reese, 72, of Spring Township, died October 29, 2017 in New York Presbyterian Hospital, New York.

He was the husband of Lyndell Ruth (Reber) Reese, whom he married November 7, 1981.

Born in West Reading, PA on June 5, 1945, he was a son of the late Henry R. and Helen B. (Selgrade) Reese.

Ed was a 1963 graduate of Muhlenberg High School; 1967 graduate of Kutztown State Teachers College and received his master’s degree from Stanford University.

He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, Laureldale.

Ed was employed as a math teacher for 37 years with Governor Mifflin High School, retiring in 2004.

He was the head track coach for 28 years and was on the track staff for 35 years.

Ed was also the Governor Mifflin Junior High Football coach and an assistant wrestling coach for a number of years and was inducted into the schools Hall of Fame in 2006.

He was a member of Lodge No. 62, F. & A.M., Reading; Muhlenberg Association of School Retirees and the Muhlenberg Lions Club, where he held all positions.

Ed achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.

He loved fishing, traveling, history, Sudoku, playing chess and his swimming pool.

Ed also looking forward to his Friday morning breakfast with other retired Governor Mifflin Teachers.

He cherished his family and is also survived by a son, Jeffrey A. Rentschler, fiancé of Janice A. Behnke of Montclair, New Jersey and brother, Daniel, husband of Dorene R. (Miuccio) Reese of Cumru Township.

Ed was predeceased by his twin-sister, Barbara Ellen Reese, who died May 20, 2012.

Services will be held Friday, November 3rd at 11:00am in Stitzel Family Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc., 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale.

Viewings will be held Thursday from 6:00 – 8:00 pm and Friday from 10:00 – 11:00 am in the funeral home.

Burial will be in Laureldale Cemetery.
