Josephine Helen (Shemanski) Yurkanin, 92, formerly of Muhlenberg Township and Keystone Villa, Douglassville, died April 17, 2018 in the Berkshire Commons, Exeter Township.
She was married July 2, 1949 to Michael Yurkanin, who died December 18, 2004.
Born in Perth Amboy, New Jersey on November 23, 1925, she was a daughter of the late Andrew and Anna (Yanolevich) Shemanski.
Josephine attended Hazleton High School.
She was employed as a seamstress until her retirement. After her retirement, she enjoyed working at Boardwalk Snacks in the Fairgrounds Market, Muhlenberg Township.
Josephine was an active and devoted member of Holy Guardian Angels Roman Catholic Church, Hyde Park.
She loved cooking, baking, family vacations and playing bingo and pinochle.
Josephine is survived by two children: Michele A. (Yurkanin), wife of David A. Weber and Michael M., husband of Elizabeth A. (Karst) Yurkanin, all of Exeter Township.
She was the loving grandmother to four grandchildren: Kristin M. (Weber), wife of Shane L. Jimison; Tara E. (Yurkanin), wife of Jason F. Durham; Kelly E. Weber and Ryan M., husband of Nicole J. (Brandolini) Yurkanin and five great grandchildren: Mia E. Durham, Kayla J. Durham, Henry “Hank” M. Jimison, Penelope J. Yurkanin and Kaia M. Yurkanin.
Josephine was predeceased by a son, Mark, June 1, 1956 and four siblings: Joseph, Frances, Edward and Stanley.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, April 21st at 10:00 am in Holy Guardian Angels R.C. Church, 3121 Kutztown Road, Reading, PA 19605.
A viewing will be held Saturday from 9:00 am – 10:00 am in the Church.
Entombment will be in Gethsemane Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Church at the above address.
