Marian (Megraw) Allen Keene, 90, formerly of Muhlenberg Township, departed this life September 21, 2016 surrounded by her loving family.  

She was the wife of the late Rev. Earl W. Allen, with whom she shared a devoted marriage for 38 years until his death in 1986, and the late Frederick R. Keene, Sr. who passed away in 2013. 

Born June 8, 1926 in Chester, PA, she was a daughter of the late Arthur J. and Mae M. (Horne) Megraw. 

She was a 1944 graduate of Prospect Park High School, where she was a member of various sports teams and clubs and was a verified social butterfly, voted “Most Popular” in her senior class. 

Following her graduation from Prospect Park, she attended nursing school at Hahnemann Hospital, graduating in 1948.  While studying at Hahnemann Hospital, she joined the United States Cadet Nurse Corps in service to her country during the Second World War.   

She went on to receive her B.S.N. at the University of Pennsylvania in 1972, and later earned her master’s degree in Science from Temple University in 1980.  Marian was a member of the American Association of University Women. 

Marian was employed with Reading Hospital for 20 years as an instructor in the School of Nursing, retiring in 1992.  Prior to that she was head nurse in the Pediatric unit at Crozier Chester Medical Center. 

She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Reading, where she formerly served on the board of Deacons. She also was a faithful choir member for many years and a former Sunday school teacher. 

Marian loved spending time on the beach in New Jersey, where she and her first husband owned a property.  She traveled extensively throughout Europe and enjoyed collecting trinkets from around the world. She most enjoyed time spent with her family and dates to get her nails done. 

Marian is survived by her four daughters: Linda Allen of Fleetwood; Patti, wife of Reid C. Seasholtz of Mohnton; Nancy, wife of Paul Grady of Blandon, and Karen, wife of Jeffrey Snyder of Muhlenberg Township. 

Also surviving are her eight grandchildren: Heather, wife of Dr. Marc DiSabella of Washington, DC; Steve Seasholtz and his companion Vanessa Martinez of King of Prussia; Ryan Duncan and his companion Sara Golden of Blandon; Kirsten Snyder of Muhlenberg; Erik, husband of Lauren Snyder of Edge Water, Maryland; Adam Duncan and his fiancée Grace McKeon of Shoemakersville , Aimee, wife of Charlie Fisher of Lititz; Kayla Duncan of Blandon and 2 great grandchildren, Bennett and Eva DiSabella of Washington, DC. 

Many nieces and nephews also survive. 

She was preceded in death by her brother Arthur J. Megraw, Jr. 

Services will be held Monday, September 26th at 12 PM in Stitzel Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Inc., 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale.  A viewing will be held from 10 AM until the time of service. Burial will be private.
