Mario Borgatta, 89, of Spring Township, died August 12, 2016 in Penn State Health / St. Joseph.

He was the husband of Palma (Calabrese) Borgatta, whom he married August 7, 1955. They celebrated 61 years of marriage last Sunday.

Born September 10, 1926 in Valle San Bartolomeo, Alessandria, Italy, he was a son of the late Luigi and Efisia (Cabras) Borgatta.

He was a member of St. Ignatius Loyola Roman Catholic Church, Whitfield.

Mario was a veteran of WWII, serving with the Italian Army.

He was the patriarch of the Borgatta and Calabrese families; a strong, loving man, there was nothing more important to him than family.

Mario was the loving father to, Louis, husband of Rosanna (Maieli) Borgatta of Spring Township and Mary J. (Borgatta), wife of Thomas J. McDonald of Lower Heidelberg Township.

His pride and joy were his grandchildren whom he loved seeing and spending time with.

Affectionately  known as “Gpa” he is also survived by his grandchildren: Ashley A. Borgatta, Mario S. Borgatta, Louis F. Borgatta, Brittney N. McDonald, James M. McDonald and Kailey A. McDonald.

Mario was predeceased by two brothers: Giuseppe and Carlo Borgatta.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, August 16th at 10:30 am in St. Ignatius Loyola R.C. Church, 2800 St. Albans Drive, Sinking Spring, PA 19608.

Viewings will be held Monday evening 6:00 – 8:00 pm and Tuesday morning 9:00 – 10:00 am in Stitzel Family Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc., 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale, PA 19605.

Entombment will follow in Pleasant View Cemetery Mausoleum, Spring Township.
