Dorothy Evelyn Deck Bingaman, 87, of Laureldale, PA passed away peacefully on April 29, 2018. She is now reunited with her husband, Fritz, and her daughter, Linda, in heaven.
Dot was born on September 9, 1930. She is proceeded by her mother, Blanche Barlow Scheidy, her stepfather, Luther Scheidy, and her two younger siblings, Larry and Paul Deck.
Dorothy graduated from Muhlenberg High School, Class of 1948. She married her high school sweetheart Fredrick “Fritz” Bingaman in 1952. In 1954, they build their own home together and had one daughter, Linda Susan Bingaman.
Dorothy was employed as a clerk for the former Berks County Trust Company for 13 years and then as a secretary for the Muhlenberg School District for 27 years; she retired in 1990. Dot was both secretary and president of the Muhlenberg School Retirees Association. She was an elder at Grace Alsace U.C.C. in Reading where she also taught Sunday school for 42 years.
Dot was a member of the Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America, where she once held the title of High Priestess. Dot was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 251, where she had held the position of chaplain.
Dorothy was very active in her community and enjoyed frequent card games with neighborhood friends. She regularly hosted sewing circles and said her greatest sewing accomplishment was being able to craft her daughter’s wedding dress alongside her mother, Blanche. Dot was known as the “Puzzle Lady” for her love of jigsaws and always completed crosswords in pen at the Keystone Villa of Fleetwood. She loved to travel and often spoke of her favorite places, including Louisiana, Virginia Beach, and Hawaii.
Dorothy is survived by her two granddaughters, Lisa “Rutch” Corritore and Jennifer “Troubles” Napieralski, her grandson-in-law, Richard Edward Corritore III, and her two great-grandchildren, Richard “Reid” Edward Corritore IV and Liliana Dorothy Corritore.
Services will be held Wednesday, May 2nd at 11am at the Stitzel Family Funeral Home, 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale, PA. A viewing will be held prior to the service, from 10am to 11am. Burial will be in Spies Zion Cemetery in Reading, PA.
