Earl Kenneth Westley

Earl Kenneth Westley, 94, formerly of Muhlenberg Township, died July 12, 2018 at Green Hills Manor, Cumru Township.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Janice M. (Pannabecker) Westley, who died October 25, 1970, and by his second wife, Helen M. (Angstadt) Westley, who died April 4, 2014. 

Born May 2, 1924 in Reading, he was a son of the late J. Milton and Flora M. (Hinkel) Westley.

Earl was a 1941 graduate of Reading High School.  He also graduated from Wyomissing Polytechnic Institute.

He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy for three years, primarily in the South Pacific on the heavy cruiser, USS Boston.

Earl was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, Laureldale.

He also enjoyed golfing, bowling and spending time with his family and friends.

Earl is also survived by a brother, Donald M., husband of Doris (Schwenk) Westley of Cumru Township. He was predeceased by three siblings: Robert, Ruth and Wilbur “Bud”.

He is survived by two children: Michael E. Westley, husband of Ginger Hamilton of Menlo Park, CA and; Eileen J. Westley-Hetrick of Hershey and a step-son, Billy N. VanKirk, husband of Donna (Hall) of Temple.

He was the loving grandfather to five grandchildren: Benjamin Westley, Peter Westley, Lauren Hetrick, Brett VanKirk and Mary VanKirk and five great grandchildren.

Services will be held Wednesday, July 18th at 11:00 am in Laureldale Cemetery, 4631 Pottsville Pike, (Muhlenberg Township), Reading, PA 19605.  A viewing will be held from 10:00 – 11:00 am in the Chapel at Laureldale Cemetery.
