Elizabeth N. (Matta) Sommers

Elizabeth N. “Liz” Sommers, 75, of Summit Hill, passed away November 4, 2018 in St. Luke’s Hospice House, Bethlehem, with her loving family by her side.

She was the loving wife of Alexander William Sommers, Sr., who passed away February 21, 2018.

Born in Coaldale, PA on April 3, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Jean (Bender) Matta.

Elizabeth was a graduate of Lansford High School.

She was an active member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church of the Panther Valley. Elizabeth loved her faith and enjoyed listening to religious music.

Elizabeth loved swimming, crocheting, cooking, Elvis music and her dog “Josey”. Most especially she loved her children.

She is survived by her daughter, Patricia "Patsy" Sommers and her wife Joann Groark of Skippack Township, and two sons; Alexander William Sommers, Jr. of Summit Hill and Jeremy Keith Sommers and his companion JoAnne Turner of Summit Hill. 

Also surviving are her siblings: Annette Kirchdoerfer of Lansford, John Matta husband of Patricia Matta of Tampa, Fl and Elaine “Bootie” Hill of Tamaqua.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her grandson Nicholas A. Allesch who passed away May 2, 2011. She was also preceded by sister Jean Coniglio and a brother Joseph “Tweety” Matta, Jr..

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday  at  11 AM in St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church of the Panther Valley, 462 West Ludlow St, Summit Hill, PA 18250.  

A viewing will be held  Friday  from  6-8 pm and again on Saturday from 10-11 am in St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church of the Panther Valley, 462 West Ludlow St, Summit Hill, PA 18250.

Burial will be private.
