Phyllis Elizabeth (Platte) Leib 91, of the Reed Farm Settlement, Muhlenberg Township passed away peacefully at the Reading Hospital on August 3, 2018. She was the daughter of the late Michael and Josephine (Jimlo) (Giviglino) Platte (Pelliciotti) , wife and widow of the late Andrew J. (Jay) Leib Jr. who passed away April 14, 2006 after 49 years of marriage.
Phyllis was born May 23, 1927 and raised in Hazleton. Graduated from Hazleton High School class of 1945. After high school, she was employed by the Hazle Maid Bakery and the Catherines’ Dress Shop. In 1957, Phyllis married and moved to Lancaster where she worked at Watt & Shand. In 1960, Phyllis and Jay relocated to Lititz. Phyllis always loved art and while in Lititz was a member of the Village Art Association (now the Lititz Art Association) and studied under founder Floyd Hackman. In 1967, she was a committee member of the first Lititz Art Show. Phyllis and her family came to Reading in 1969 where she continued painting and was a member of the Berks Art Alliance. Phyllis was an avid reader and always ended her day with good book while listening to talk radio. She enjoyed cooking for friends and family, especially her grandsons. In 1974, she was named Cook of the Week by the Reading Eagle for her pumpkin bread and cinnamon flop cake.
Phyllis was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She always found great strength in her faith and spirituality. Phyllis was a former member of Most Precious Blood Church in Hazleton, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lititz, Alsace Lutheran Church and Holy Rosary Church in Reading.
She was predeceased by her sister Jean Ann Platte in 2009 and her sister in law Christine (Potter) Platte in 2011.
Phyllis is survived by a brother Michael J. Platte of Haymarket VA, a daughter and caregiver Jean Ann Leib of Mohnton PA., a son Andrew J. Leib III, husband of Janelle L. (Herb) of Muhlenberg Township and three grandsons: First Lieutenant Andrew J. Leib IV of Fort Stewart GA, Harry Clayton Leib of Lexington VA and Griffin Michael Leib of Muhlenberg Township.

Services will be held Thursday at 10:00 AM in the Stitzel Family Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc., 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale. A visitation will be held Thursday from 9:15 AM until the time of services in the funeral home.
