Alexander William Sommers Jr. 56, of Summit Hill, passed away July 4th, 2021 in St. Luke’s Hospital of Bethlehem. Many family and friends called him “Little Butch”, “Butchie”, “Alex” or “Al”. Some family even called him “Bull Frog”.
Born in Coaldale on May 10, 1965, Al was the son of the late Alexander W. and Elizabeth (Matta) Sommers.
Al was a 1983 graduate of Marian Catholic High School. He also completed certifications as a master electrician and master carpenter through the Central Montgomery County Vocational-Technical Institute.
He worked in the past as a police officer for Kidder Township. He also had numerous jobs working in security, maintenance and construction. Al most recently worked for ATS Services, LLC .
Al had a passion for all sports, but especially enjoyed hunting and fishing. Butch enjoyed yelling at the TV while watching his favorite teams play, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Mets.
He also had a passion for music and was an incredible rhythm guitar player and singer for several years with a local band in Telford, called “Short Bus”. Al was drawn to music from many artists. Some of his favorites were Bruce Springstien, John Prine and Elvis. Al would be so proud when his younger brother, Jeremy would join him on stage to sing an Elvis tune.
Al was most happy when attending a “good party”. Al had a knack for making people laugh and smile with his crazy antics.
Surviving are his sister: Patricia "Patsy" Sommers and her wife Joann Groark of Skippack Township; and several cousins and second cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father (February 2018), mother (November 2018), brother Jeremy (January 2020), son Nicholas A. Allesch (May 2011). Also, preceded in death by his grandparents: Pasquale Sommers (Samuele) and Catherine "Katie" (Kane) Sommers and Joseph and Jean Matta.
