Anastasia “Sarah” (Polubinski-Soroko) Polinko, 104, formerly of Hazleton, died June 13, 2021 in Sacred Heart Villa, Muhlenberg Township, where she had called home since October, 2015.
She was married January 24, 1948 to Charles Polinko, who died September 2, 1954.
Born in Hazle Township, Luzerne County, on February 3, 1917, she was a daughter of the late Michael Polubinski and Marcyanna (Bien) Polubinski-Soroko. She was also predeceased by her stepfather, Konstanty Soroko.
Anastasia was a graduate of Foster Township High School, Freeland, Luzerne County.
She was employed by St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic School for 35 years, before retiring as the chief cook.
Anastasia was a longtime member of St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church, where she could also be found volunteering in any role necessary, up until her moving to Reading in 2015.
She is survived by two sons: Charles T., husband of Jeanne M. (Fiorilla) Polinko of Wyomissing, PA., and Paul R., husband of Victoria (DiGregory) Polinko of Pittsburgh, PA.
Anastasia was the proud grandmother to two girls: Michelle A., wife of Peter Groff of Ambler, PA and Janine M., wife of Benjamin Latham of Plano, TX, and a great grandmother to four great-grandchildren: Isabella Groff, Zachary Groff, namesake Anastasia Latham, and Samuel Latham.
She is also survived by a brother, Raymond, widower of Elizabeth Soroko of Arlington, VA, and a sister-in-law, Irene, widow of Chester Soroko of Freeland, Luzerne County.
Anastasia was predeceased by six siblings: Helen Durkota, Sophia “Sofia” Klapinsky, Edward, Chester, Victor, and Edmund Soroko.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Sacred Heart Villa and Caring Hospice Services for the extraordinary loving care shown to their mother.
A viewing will be held Thursday, June 17th from 12:30 – 1:30 PM in Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 237 Franklin Street, Reading.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 1:30 PM in Holy Rosary R.C. Church.
Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church, Hazleton, Luzerne County.
