Barry Lee Pounds

Barry Lee Pounds, 77, of Muhlenberg Township, died September 3, 2023, at Tower Health – Reading Hospital, West Reading.

He was the loving husband of My Thi (Hoang) Pounds, with whom he would’ve shared 52 years of marriage next month.

Born June 23, 1946, in Greensburg, PA; he was a son of the late Glenn Coad and Esther Marie (Alexander) Pounds. His childhood was spent growing up in Birdsboro, PA graduating from Daniel Boone High School.

Barry was a 1968 graduate of Penn State University graduating with an Accounting degree.  He was a member of the Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity and Penn State ROTC.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War where he served as a Captain and earned the Bronze Star.

Barry was employed as an accounting supervisor with Penn Optical of Reading and Gilbert Associates, Green Hills. 

He enjoyed anything Penn State, gardening, fishing, traveling, road trips, and carpentry.  

Barry was a member of the Berks County Accountants Society and Muhlenberg Lion’s Club.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, is his son, Dr. Kevin L. Pounds, husband of Shelley Goodstein of Tucson, Arizona

He is also survived by his three step grandchildren.

In addition, surviving is his sister, Donna G. (Pounds), widow of Edward Kirkpatrick of Maryland.

Barry was preceded in death by his sister, Carol Faye Pounds in 2020.

A Prayer Service will be held September 9th at 10 a.m. at Stitzel Family Funeral Homes &
Crematory, Inc., 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale.  A viewing will be held Friday evening from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.  Burial will follow services at Gethsemane Cemetery.
