Beatrice Johnson Obituary

Beatrice Joanne Johnson, 86, of Gilbertsville, passed away Wednesday, May 21, 2025 at Chestnut Knoll Assisted Living. Born June 2, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Carmine C. Cellucci and Frances M. Antonucci. Beatrice was the beloved wife and widow of Robert G. Johnson who died in 2018. Bob and Bea were married in August of 1957 at St. Gabriel’s R.C. Church in Stowe, PA and enjoyed 60 years of marriage.

She was a graduate of Pottsgrove High School where she was an excellent student and enjoyed playing hockey and softball. Following graduation, and then as a young wife and mother, Bea worked for a family-owned fabric store in Pottstown. Later she worked at several manufacturing plants in the Boyertown area including a sewing factory, Koolie Cup, and Wagner Electric.

Bea could not wait to be a grandmother and without hesitation retired from Wagner to be full-time MomMom for her granddaughters. In a few short years she began volunteering at Brookside Montessori where the girls attended and later joined the childcare staff at the Boyertown YMCA where she cared for infants, toddlers, as well as before and after school agers. Miss Bea cared for children until illness forced her to retire at the age of 80.

In her spare time Bea loved to sew and bake. Chocolate chip cookies and “Pops Cake” (the best chocolate cake!) were staples in her home. She baked and decorated the most delicious birthday and wedding cakes. She and Bob were avid square dancers for many years. Together, they stayed active in the community and at their church and loved giving of themselves wherever and wherever they could.

Bea was a Brownie Troop leader for Girl Scouts and a Cub Pack leader for Boy Scouts. She taught 3rd grade Sunday school and Vacation Bible School for many years and was a member of her church’s Preschool Board. Bea loved cooking weekly meals for the church’s youth club, preparing homemade peanut butter and coconut eggs to sell for the Preschool Easter fundraiser, and participated for many years in Relay for Life in Boyertown. Bea and her husband also delivered meals for Meals on Wheels in the Boyertown area.

Beatrice is survived by two daughters, Donna (Johnson) House, wife of Christopher of Boyertown, and Joanne Johnson of Bechtelsville; two granddaughters who she adored, Jessica Johnson, and Jordyn (House) Hicks, wife of Matthew; one beloved great-grandchild, Everhett Hicks; and her youngest sister, Nancy Vanderslice of Arizona. Bea is also survived by sisters- and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews and their families, and cousins.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a son, John Robert Johnson who passed away December 24, 2024. And five siblings who predeceased her: Anna Jefferson, Tony Cellucci, Josephine Minotto, Francis Cellucci, and Terry Cellucci.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 28, 2025 at Shepherd of the Hill Calvary Chapel Cemetery in Bechtelsville, PA. The Rev. Scott Staub will preside.
