Beatrice "Betty" Adrianne (Birch) Silverman Leuffen

Beatrice “Betty” Adrianne (Birch) Silverman Leuffen, age 89, passed away May 26, 2022 in her Highlands at Wyomissing residence.

Born October 16, 1932 in Philadelphia, she was a daughter of the late Frank E. and Violet A. (Price) Birch.

She was married in 1959 to her first husband, Arthur “Mickey” Silverman, who died August 17, 1981.

Betty was blessed to find love a second time marrying Karl-Heinz Leuffen on March 29, 1992.

She was a 1950 graduate of Gratz High School and attended Beaver College (now Arcadia University).

Betty was employed by Moore, McLain, Nally and Shumaker Realtors during the 1970s and 1980s.

She is also survived by her son, Steven C., husband of Heidi (Gangewere) Silverman of Wyomissing, and three stepchildren: Eric K., husband of Deborah (Reading) Leuffen of Exeter Township; Christopher J. Leuffen companion of Michelle Reyes of Westlake Village, California; and Suzanne (Leuffen) Cortney, wife of David Spiegel of Hidden Hills, California; and a daughter-in-law, Karen E. Kreider.

Betty was predeceased by a son, Michael Arthur Silverman (1960 – 1984).

Other survivors include eight grandchildren: Aubrey and Craig Silverman; Kendall and Jared Leuffen; Cole Leuffen; Brittan Cortney, Garrett Dylan, and Makenna Cortney.

She volunteered for numerous local causes, most notably 40 years on the television broadcast crew of Trinity Lutheran Church, Reading, where she was an active and devoted member for many years, and where she taught Sunday School.  She also volunteered with Meals-On-Wheels and the former Woman’s Exchange, West Reading, as well as serving on the Board of Directors of the Berkshire Country Club.

Betty served on the Bern Township Planning Commission and was among the founding members of Breast Cancer Support Services of Berks County, she herself being a breast cancer survivor, and was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Memorial Services will be held Saturday, June 18th at 11:00 AM in Trinity Lutheran Church, 527 Washington Street, Reading, PA 19601.  A visitation will be from 9:30 AM until time of services in the Church.  Burial will be private.
