Betty Louise Straube, 92, died August 3, 2024 in her Oley residence, surrounded by her loving family.
She was the widow of Rev. Gordon John Straube who died October 10, 2017. They had shared more than 65 years of marriage.
Born November 3, 1931, in Hanover, PA, she was a daughter of the late Edward J. and Grace C. (Strickhouser) Bishe.
Betty was a 1949 graduate of Boyertown High School.
After spending many years as a homemaker, she worked for Bell Telephone as a switchboard operator, and subsequently, in retail with J.M. Fields and The New York store.
Betty served alongside her husband, who was Pastor of Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church, Pleasantville, for 38 years. She dedicated her life to the church and serving the Lord.
She enjoyed reading, gardening and loved Jesus. She read the entire Bible 33 times, committing to living her life according to His word.
Surviving are her two daughters: Lisa S. Mauger-Kulp, wife of Kevin L. Kulp of Oley; Lori B. Racey, wife of Larry R. Racey, Jr. of St. Marys, GA.
Also surviving are her two granddaughters: Annette L., wife of Shawn Kondash and Jill A. Varady-Pappas.
In addition, she is survived by her sister, Garnett, wife of Leverne Boyer of Bechtelsville and Harold, husband of Jean Bishe of Boyertown.
Betty will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, and other family members.
She was preceded in death by her grandson Aaron S. Ziegler on May 5, 2001.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 8th at 10:30 a.m. at Bethany E.C. Church, 38 Covered Bridge Road, Oley, PA 19547. Viewings will be held Wednesday, August 7th from 6-8 p.m. and Thursday August 8th from 9:30-10:30 a.m.; both at the church. Burial will follow the service at Fairview Cemetery, Boyertown.
