Carol Ann Wertz, 79, died June 25, 2022 in her Muhlenberg Township residence.
Born September 7, 1942, in Laureldale, she was a daughter of the late Calvin Leroy and Alma Goldie (Becker) Wertz.
Carol was a 1961 graduate of Muhlenberg High School.
She was employed as a facilities manager with CNA Insurance for 45 years, retiring in 2006. Prior to retirement, Carol was also active with the Downtown Improvement District in the city of Reading.
Carol was a dedicated member of Calvary Lutheran Church, Laureldale, where she served over the many years of her membership in various volunteer positions on church council, capital campaign committee, executive committee, finance committee and personnel committee. She also taught Sunday school and was active in the church youth activities. Her Calvary fundraising activities included baking sticky buns and potato cakes and the annual Easter and Christmas candy making campaigns, and fall mum sale.
In addition to her many faithful friends in her church community, Carol's circle of friendships included her Canasta Card Club, the Saturday Night Dinner Club, Muhlenberg Classmates of '61, CNA Retirees, her Reading Phillies Box-Seaters, and her beloved neighbors, Pat and Ronnie Moyer.
Carol enjoyed her precious felines, vegetable and flower gardening, cross-stitch, reading about the history of Berks County, watching sports of any kind, and most of all, cheering on her beloved Phillies and Eagles.
Surviving is her sister, Marilyn J. Oyler of Leesport, two nieces: Cheryl Hatcher of Greenville, SC and Bonnie Bollinger of Wernersville, five great nieces and nephews, six beautiful great-great nieces, and numerous close-knit relatives across Berks and Lancaster Counties.
Carol was preceded in death by her sister, Marjorie L. Wertz.
Services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at Calvary Lutheran Church, 1009 Elizabeth Ave., Laureldale, PA 19605. A viewing will be held from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. in the church. Burial will follow at Laureldale Cemetery, Muhlenberg Township.
