Chester M. Mercer Jr., of Muhlenberg Township, passed away May 3, 2026 at St. Joseph Hospital.
He was the loving husband of Suzanne (DiStefano) Mercer who he married August 22, 1965.
Born on May 5, 1938, in Reading, PA, he was the son of the late Chester Mercer Sr. and Laura (Reigel) Mercer.
Chester was a 1956 graduate of Reading Highschool and later went on to obtain his associate degree in Mechanical Engineering from Penn State University.
He was a member of the Navy reserves from 18 years old to 27 years old. Chester then decided to pursue his passion and started his own business from scratch. After many years of hard work he turned his dream into a reality and owned / operated Mercer Machine & Hydraulics Inc., for the majority of his life.
In Chester’s free time he loved riding his motorcycle anywhere he could go. He was a member of the BMW Motorcycle club in Allentown. When he wasn’t riding his motorcycles he loved working on different types of cars and keeping busy. Chester had a strong faith in God and was an active member at Alsace Lutheran Church.
Surviving are three children: Jeffrey Mercer, husband of Michele (Steffey) Mercer of Flying Hills, PA; Andrea (Mercer) Germann, wife of Paul of Reading, PA; and Eric Mercer, husband of Denise (Fetter) Mercer of North Wales, PA.
Also surviving are six grandchildren: Stephani; Madeline; Margot; Avalyn; Alexander; and Bethany. As well as one step-grandchild, Bobby.
He leaves behind two great grandchildren, Jayden and Dalton.
A service will be held Saturday May 9, 2026 at 10 am at the Stitzel Family Funeral homes & Crematory Inc., Laureldale, 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale, PA 19605. A viewing will be held prior at the same location from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Burial will follow the service at Laureldale Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Wounded Warriors Project or the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
