Darlene Sandra (Moyer) Mest, 66, of Exeter Township, passed away Sunday, June 8, 2025, at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital, Philadelphia, surrounded by her loving family.
She was the wife of John Mest who she happily married November 14, 1987.
Born February 20, 1959, in Pottstown, she was the daughter of the late Raymond Moyer and Charlotte (Brassington) Moyer.
Darlene was a 1977 graduate of Boyertown High School.
She had a strong passion for reading and carried that on to become the assistant director at the Exeter Community Library where she worked the majority of her career.
Darlene loved to keep busy with many different hobbies. Her biggest passion was quilting and she enjoyed almost anything where she was using her hands. This included baking her famous pumpkin pie or her homemade mac and cheese to tending to her garden where she would care for her purple flowers, vegetables and different herbs. One of her favorite activities was swimming and she especially enjoyed swimming in Emerald Isle, NC on their yearly family vacation.
She had a strong love for animals and rescued five dogs from the Humane Society in the past. Her dogs Baby and Duchess brought her so much joy. Darlene also enjoyed running the book club at Exeter Community Library and was very involved in giving back to the community. Her family is what brought her true happiness. She loved to spend time with her children and grandkids. She could spend hours playing board and card games with her husband John.
Surviving are two children, Mary Mest, wife of Jacob Schwartz of Baltimore County and Sean Mest, husband of Jessica (Hurley) Mest of Pottstown.
Also surviving are four grandchildren: Mikayla Schwartz; Emma Mest; Abigail Mest; Lillian Mest
One sister is surviving, Charlene Shaw.
A celebration of life will be held Thursday, June 19th, 2025 at the Dunn Community Center, upper level, 4565 Prestwick Drive, Reading, PA 19606, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., followed by a private meal for family.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital or the Reading Humane Society.
