Denise Merritt

Denise M. Merritt, 63, of Reading, passed away Sunday, October 19, 2025 at Penn State Health St. Joseph Medical Center. 

Born September 9, 1962, in Reading, she was the daughter of the late Jack Merritt and Anna (Eyrich) Merritt. 

After graduating from Oley Valley High School, Denise completed an associate degree in Early Childhood Education at RACC.  She was employed as a Teacher at the Second Street Learning Center in Reading, PA for 26 years where she found her passion and desire for helping children.  This is what brought her true happiness.  She considered her co-workers her family and cared deeply for them. 

An avid Elvis fan, Denise enjoyed watching crime shows and movies in her free time.  On Sundays she would cheer on her beloved Philadelphia Eagles, sporting her Eagles jacket everywhere she went.  Denise's smile could light up a room.  She intuitively knew what others needed and spoke words of wisdom to many of us.  There is a special place in heaven for this beautiful soul. 

Denise was predeceased by her brothers Gary Merritt, and Joseph Merritt, as well as her step-father, Andrew Subisak.

Service will be private at the convenience of the family.
