Dr. Harold L. Strause, Jr.

Dr. Harold L. Strause, Jr., 97 of Reading passed away October 9, 2023 in his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of the late Lucille (Sheehan) Strause, who passed away in 2009. 

Born March 7, 1926 in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Harold L. Strause, Sr. and Emma (Berger) Strause.

He was a graduate of Reading High School, Muhlenberg College and Jefferson Medical College, where he obtained his degree in Ophthalmology. 

Dr. Strause practiced at Community General Hospital, Reading for many years. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy. 

Harold enjoyed model railroading and fly fishing. He and his wife were long-time volunteers with Meals on Wheels. 

Harold is survived by three children: Sue S., wife of Lawrence J. Karas of Houston, Texas; James A., husband of Pok Y. (Heo) Strause of Madison, Ohio; and Jane S., wife of John J. Buckley Jr., of Mohnton. 

He is also survived by six grandchildren: Sarah E. Strause, John J. Buckley III, Stephanie (Karas) Bergmann, Patrick J. Buckley, Meghan (Buckley) Sprys and Lauren E. Karas. Also surviving are six great grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his siblings: Donald B. Strause, Patricia A. Sell and David A. Strause.
