Earl Leroy Swartz, Jr.

Earl Leroy Swartz, Jr., 93, of Muhlenberg Township, died January 10, 2023 in Tower Health / Reading Hospital.

He was married November 15, 1952 to Margaret Ann (Lynch) Swartz, who died January 31, 2015.

Born in Reading, PA on August 19, 1929, he was a son of the late Earl Leroy Swartz, Sr., and Helen (Geist) Swartz.

Earl was a 1948 graduate of Reading High School.

He was a Marine Corp Veteran of the Korean Conflict.

Earl enjoyed freshwater fishing and attending all of his children’s and grandchildren’s events.

He was employed 41 years with Quakermaid Kitchens, Leesport, starting in the hardware department and moving up to foreman before retiring as a security guard at Quakermaid Kitchens.

Earl is survived by three children: Stephen E., husband of Lyn R. (Hoffman) Swartz of Temple; Timothy E., husband of Linda S. (Rothenberger) Swartz of Laureldale; and Lori J. (Swartz) Shomper, companion of Ray Weiandt of Maidencreek Township.

He was the proud grandfather of seven grandchildren: Christopher M., husband of Lauren (Wojciechowski) Swartz of Lititz; Ryan M. Swartz, companion of Meredith E. Heming of Muhlenberg Township; Bradley S., husband of Barbara (Kitchell) Swartz of West Chester; Justin M. Shomper, fiancé of Jill Naylor of Phoenixville; Jena L. (Shomper), wife of Bradley Rhoads of Limerick; Jarrek T. Swartz of Laureldale; and Jordan M., husband of Joie (Formando) Shomper of Tucson, Arizona; and 7 great grandchildren: Weston, Myles, Ella, Madelyn, Eliza, Chase, and Sadie.

Earl was predeceased by two siblings: Charles L. Swartz and Marylou Yeich.

A viewing will be held Saturday from 10:00 – 11:00 am in Stitzel Family Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc., 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale, with a prayer service starting at 11:00 am.

Entombment with Military Honors will be in Gethsemane Cemetery Mausoleum, Muhlenberg Township.
