A Penchant for Pigs and Polka Dots
In some cases diamonds are a girl’s best friend, but not for our Mom. For her it was pearls, polka dots and a pet pig named Petunia. A penchant for Paris, foxes, aged scotch and growing Queen Elizabeth roses.
When it came to entertaining and gardening, she was as passionate and successful as when she was an entrepreneur working on her interior decorating business, or in real estate selling some of Berks County’s most beautiful, historic homes.
Mom thrived on spoiling her three children, Elizabeth Diener, Courtney Diener-Stokesand Walter “Drei” Diener III, their spouses, John Stokes and Amy Diener, six grandchildren, Alex, Julia, and Silas Diener and Maxwell, Julian and Olivia Stokes, and her dog, Spot.
She always made them feel special and showered them with love, whether hosting her own Nanny Camp or a slumber party that often involved ice cream for breakfast.
Named “Best Dressed Girl on Campus” by Glamour magazine while at Vermont College, Mom and her fashionable wardrobe made their way to New York City’s Madison Avenue where she worked at an elite ad agency in the 1960s. Later, she returned to her hometown of Wyomissing where a love of the countryside eventually took her to the Oley Valley.
Volunteerism for many causes was near and dear to her heart. She spent countless hours over the course of many years raising money for our local hospitals, hosting a camp for children with cancer and volunteering with hospice.
Cocktail hours will never be the same without our amazing Mom/ Mumsy/ Mama/ Nanny. We will forever raise a glass of scotch in celebration of her shining life.
