He was the husband of Ruth Blanche (Wagner) Shane, who died December 5, 2018. They were married September 24, 1949, in Denver, Colorado where Ernest was stationed in the U.S. Air Force.

Born in Oley on February 23, 1929, he was the son of the late William D., and Margaret (Bower) Shane.

Ernest graduated from Oley High School in 1947 and was an active member of Salem United Church of Christ in Spangsville for many years.

He was employed in agricultural product sales for many years for Agway, Farm Bureau, and Eastern Industries. Prior to that, Ernest worked at the Southeastern Penna. Artificial Breeding Cooperative, and drove the Murphy Bus from Boyertown to Reading.

Ernest enjoyed golf, gardening, driving, and road trips. Most of all, he enjoyed being close with his family, and being a father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Ernest also loved his ice cream.

He is survived by three children: Gary L., husband of Etta Shane of Exeter Township; Lorie R. (Shane), wife of Michael Schneider of Havertown; and Steven A., husband of Robin (Hummel) Shane of Maidencreek Township.  Other survivors include eight grandchildren: Justin, Adam, Ady, Geoffrey, Ted, Shanna, Cory, and Sarah; and eight great grandchildren: Greta, Myrna, Jasper, Rowan, Rishi, Wren, Hanlee, and Brynn.

Ernest was predeceased by three siblings: William I. Shane, Sarah Stauffer, and Martha Hoch.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Ernest’s compassionate caregivers at Keystone Villa, Douglassville and Holisticare Hospice, Wyomissing.
