Fern Yorgey

Fern H. (Stitzer) Yorgey, 92, Ruscombmanor Twp, passed away peacefully into the presence of her Savior, Thursday, January 7, 2021.

She was the wife of the late R. Gordon Yorgey, with whom she shared 62 years of marriage.

She was preceded in death by her sister Bettye A. Wegman.

Born in Oley, Pennsylvania, on November 27, 1928, she was the daughter of Elmer and Anna (Mathias) Stitzer.

Fern graduated from Oley Valley High School in 1946 and was an active member in numerous ministries of New Life Bible Fellowship Church, Oley.

She worked with her husband, who was owner of Red Wing Farms. Fern thoroughly enjoyed cooking farm fresh foods and entertaining family and friends with style. She began singing at the Mennonite Brethren in Christ Church in Fleetwood, where she discovered her love for music and Jesus. At the age of 3, she sang duets with her sister Bettye which they continued to do for many years.

In recent years, she was a resident of Frederick Living in Frederick, PA where she sang in the choir. Fern also enjoyed feeding birds on her porch (especially Jenny Wrens), reading, playing her piano and listening to hymns.

Fern is survived by one daughter, Lois E. Hambel, wife of George Hambel, Breinigsville. And four sons: Mark L., husband of Lois K., Ruscombmanor Twp; Joel A., husband of Linda, Riceville, IA.; Philip M., husband of  Margaret, Somersworth, NH; and Andrew G., husband of Kimberly, Ruscombmanor Twp.; 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Monday, January 18, 2021, from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. with services beginning at 11:00 a.m. at New Life Bible Fellowship, 2960 W Philadelphia Ave, Oley, PA 19547. The service will be livestreamed. 

A luncheon will be held immediately following the service in the church.  

A private family interment will be at Pricetown Cemetery, Pricetown, PA.
