Florentino Nieves Rivera

Florentino Nieves Rivera, 75, of Reading, passed away Monday, April 14, 2025 at St. Joseph Medical Center. 

He was the loving husband of Rosa Vega. 

Born June 20, 1949 in Cayey, Puerto Rico, he was the son of the late Casimiro Nieves and Micaela Rivera. 

Florentino was a very hardworking man and was self employed as a mechanic for his working years. In his free time he enjoyed fishing at Blue Marsh, coin collecting, recording family memories, working on cars, and keeping up with current events - he rarely missed a day without reading the newspaper. He was a family man at heart and his children are what brought him true joy. He also cherished spending time with close friends and family, often sharing stories, laughter, and good food. 

Surviving are six children: Gladys Nieves of Reading; Maria Nieves Valentin, wife of Jesus of Laureldale; Jose Nieves of Reading; Miriam Nieves; Jose Vega Acevedo; and Rafael Vega Rodriguez. 

There are eleven grandchildren also surviving: Jonathan Valentin; Joshua Valentin; Jadiel Valentin; Dallas Kulp; Connor Hoover; Cayde Nieves; Antonio Jose; Sophia Leila; Lilliana Nevaeh; Jaley Jeanne; and Eliannys Gonzalez.

Three siblings are surviving: David Nieves Rivera; Gladys Nieves Rivera; Dámaris Nieves Rivera; (passed) Esteban Gómez Rivera

A service will be held Monday, April 21 at 1 p.m. at Stitzel Family Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc., 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale, PA 19605. A viewing will be held prior from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m at the same location. Burial will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery.

Florentino Nieves Rivera, de 75 años, residente de Reading, falleció el lunes 14 de abril de 2025 en el Centro Médico St. Joseph.

Fue el amado esposo de Rosa Vega.

Nacido el 20 de junio de 1949 en Cayey, Puerto Rico, era hijo de los fallecidos Casimiro Nieves y Micaela Rivera.

Florentino fue un hombre muy trabajador y se desempeñó como mecánico por cuenta propia durante sus años laborales. En su tiempo libre disfrutaba pescar en Blue Marsh, coleccionar monedas, grabar recuerdos familiares, trabajar en automóviles y mantenerse al tanto de los acontecimientos actuales; rara vez pasaba un día sin leer el periódico. Era un hombre de familia en esencia, y sus hijos eran su mayor alegría. También valoraba profundamente pasar tiempo con amigos y familiares cercanos, compartiendo historias, risas y buena comida.

Le sobreviven seis hijos: Gladys Nieves de Reading; María Nieves Valentín, esposa de Jesús, de Laureldale; José Nieves de Reading; Miriam Nieves; José Vega Acevedo; y Rafael Vega Rodríguez.

También le sobreviven once nietos: Jonathan Valentín; Joshua Valentín; Jadiel Valentín; Dallas Kulp; Connor Hoover; Cayde Nieves; Antonio José; Sophia Leila; Lilliana Nevaeh; Jaley Jeanne; y Eliannys González.

El servicio fúnebre se llevará a cabo el lunes 21 de abril a la 1:00 p.m. en Stitzel Family Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc., 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale, PA 19605. La visita se realizará antes del servicio, de 11:00 a.m. a 1:00 p.m., en el mismo lugar. El entierro se llevará a cabo en el Cementerio Gethsemane.
