Frederick Russel Brown, 87, of Laureldale, died November 21, 2024 at Laureldale Nursing & Rehabilitation, Muhlenberg Township.
Born November 14, 1937, in Reading, he was a son of the late John Andrew and C. Betty (Stitzel) Brown.
Frederick was a 1955 graduate of Reading High School, a 1959 graduate of Kutztown State Teacher's College, and a 1965 graduate of Philadelphia Musical Academy, where he earned a master’s degree. In 1961, Frederick was awarded a scholarship for vocal studies at University of Miami by the Miami Opera Guild, where he had many auditions.
He was employed as a teacher with West Philadelphia High School, as a Principal with Wyomissing Hills Elementary School, and as a professor with West Chester University and Catholic University of America, Washington, DC.
Frederick served as organist for various churches, including Ager Road United Methodist Church, Hyattsville, MD, where he also served as choir director for many years.
He is survived by his sister, Myrna D. Brown of Laureldale.
Frederick was predeceased by one sister, Shirley Reidel, who died May 25, 2018.
Services will be held Friday, November 29th at 11 a.m. at Stitzel Family Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc., 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale. A viewing will be held one hour prior to services. Burial will be at Zion Moselem Church Cemetery, Kutztown.
