Gene Allen Turner, 81, of Oley, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully, on January 20, 2025, surrounded by his family.
He was born in Reading, PA on January 24, 1943, to Harrison and May (Rothermel) Turner. Gene married Gladys (Hoch) Turner on July 22, 1961, and they were blessed with three sons and eight grandchildren, whom he loved dearly.
After graduating from Brandywine High School, Gene entered the U.S. Army and served four years in the Signal Corps in Fort Bliss, TX. Following his military service, he spent his career working for Conestoga Telephone and Telegraph.
Gene committed his life to serving his community. He was a member of Friedens Lutheran Church, the Oley Fire Company, Pikeville Rod and Gun Club, Oley Hunting Club, and the Oley Valley Community Fair, where he ran the coffee stand alongside his wife for over a decade. He volunteered for the Boy Scouts for many years and was proud to have all three of his sons earn the rank of Eagle Scout.
Gene’s free time was spent with family, his beloved cats, and pursuing his many hobbies. Over the years, Gene tended to his many prized peach and plum trees, cut wooden lids for Longaberger baskets that he sold at craft fairs alongside his wife, and read prolifically, especially books about hunting or by John Grisham.
Gene is survived by his wife, Gladys (Hoch) Turner; his three sons, Michael Turner, and his wife, Debra Levan; Jeffrey Turner, and his wife, Dana McGackin, and Christopher Turner, and his wife, Tanya Root; his eight grandchildren, Kellsey Guell, Kirkland Turner, Kyren Turner, Jake Turner, Harrison Turner, Riley Turner, Brielle Turner, and Colten Turner; his sister, Lucille Bubbenmoyer, and her husband, Karl Bubbenmoyer; his brother, Randay Turner, and his wife, Karen Turner, and his brother-in-law, David Hoch, and his wife, Louise Hoch.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harrison and Mae Turner, and his brother, Leonard Turner.
A Celebration of Life to honor Gene will be held at a later date.
