George Heckman Obituary

George Kenneth Heckman, 87, died January 20, 2023, in his Hamburg residence.

He was the loving husband of Nancy Louise (Berstler) Heckman, with whom he shared almost 69 years of marriage.

Born April 27, 1935, in Hamburg, he was a son of the late Richard Albert and Agnes (Heckman) Heckman, and the youngest, and last surviving of their 21 children.

George attended Hamburg High School and received his GED from Reading High School.

He served in the U.S. National Guard.

George was a brick layer from the time he was 15.  He was employed as a machinist with Allen-Sherman-Hoff, Hamburg for 29 years; he also worked with Hamburg Fabricators, Reading, in the same capacity, for five years.  He retired in 2000 from Hamburg School District, as head custodian, where he worked for 9 years.

A member of Hamburg Music Boosters Club, he was a past Vice President.  He was a life member of Port Clinton Fish and Game Association, and a member of the NRA.  He was also active in the Hamburg Drum and Bugle Corps.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are his three daughters: Cindy Lou (Heckman), wife of Russell Hix of Hamburg; Anne L. (Heckman) Page of Hamburg; and Karen L. (Heckman), wife of Brian Ashenfalder of Hamburg.

Other survivors include his three grandchildren: Mark C., husband of Heather Hueske; Dale R., husband of Kelly (Good) Hartz; and Amy C. (Hartz) Kunkle.

There are also six great grandchildren: Cameron Hartz, Justin Hartz, Jacob Kunkle, Derek Hueske, Landon Hueske, and Cooper Hartz.

Burial will be private at St. John’s Cemetery, Hamburg. 

Stitzel Family Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc., Laureldale, is in charge of arrangements.
