Harold G. "Howie" Roberts

Harold G. “Howie” Roberts, Jr., 68 of Reading, was pronounced dead February 19, 2018 in Tower Health /  Reading Hospital.  He had been admitted to the hospital, after a serious fall at a friends house on February 10th.

Born October 3, 1949 in West Reading, PA., he was the son of the late Harold G. Roberts Sr., and Elizabeth (Archer) Roberts-Kalina.

He was also predeceased by his step-mother, Mildred Roberts and is survived by his step-father, Joseph Kalina, of Florida.

Howie is a graduate of Reading High School.

He was employed 48 years as a utility worker in the kitchen at Penn State Health / St. Joseph, Reading and Bern Township, before retiring, April, 2016.

Howie attended Grace Evangelical Congregational Church, Ephrata.

He was an avid animal lover, especially wolfs and  dogs.

He is survived by his aunts and uncle: Frances, widow of Joseph DeAngelo of Bernville; Ruth, widow of Leo Pauley of Wernersville and Alex, widower of Betty Archer of Reading and several cousins.

Howie is also survived by his adoptive family: Fay L. (Slusser), widow of Harry E. Souders, of Spring Township; Diane M., wife of Bill Houck of Muhlenberg Township; Michelle A., wife of Gregory S. Alesin of Spring Township; Terri Lynn Souders of Reading; Marlin L., widower of Kit (Black) Houck of Denver and Jo (Houck), wife of David Loose of Reamstown..

He was also predeceased by an adoptive brother, Michael P. Souders, who died April 6, 2016.

A visitation will be held Saturday, February 24th from 10:00 am until 11:00 am in Stitzel Family Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc., 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale.

A service will begin at 11:00 am with Rev. Keith Holt officiating.

Entombment will be in Gethsemane Mausoleum, Muhlenberg Township.
