Hilda Jean Schmeck

Hilda Jean Schmeck, 91, of Laureldale, passed away December 4, 2024, at Laureldale Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. 

Born July 17, 1933, in Muhlenberg Township, she was the daughter of the late Howard Schmeck and Eva (Gehris) Schmeck. 

Hilda was a 1951 graduate of Muhlenberg High School.

She is survived by five children: Deborah Ann (Herman), wife of Donald Hain of Muhlenberg Township; Diana V. (Herman), wife of Harold Glen Carter of Kutztown; Dolores Mae (Herman), wife of Robert W. Simmons of Spring Township; Denise Fay (Herman), wife of John P. Kurutz of Kutztown; and Charles Brian, husband of Eileen (Smith) Herman of Lancaster. 

Hilda was also the grandmother to nine grandchildren: Tanya (Carter), wife of Cliff Wanamaker; Tammy Carter; Melanie Simmons; Billy Simmons, husband of Shannon (Arabia); Michele (Simmons), wife of Imran Chowdhury; Jason Miller, husband of Amy (Scausser); Stephanie Miller; Kelly (Herman), wife of Patrick McCart; and Colleen Herman. 

Including 13 great grandchildren. 

She is also survived by one sister, Sylvia S. (Schmeck), wife of Darlington E. Krott of Muhlenberg Township. 

Predeceased are five siblings: Leona M. (Schmeck) Boyer; Roy Schmeck; Ethel (Schmeck) Fick; Jennie Schmeck; Bernard Allen Schmeck; and Jane (Schmeck) Geibel.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday, December 11, at 11 am at Spies-Zion Cemetery, 318 Spies Church Road, Reading, PA 19606.
