Horace Cleaver Obituary

Horace Franklin Cleaver, 96, formerly of Pleasantville, passed away March 3, 2018 in Amity Place in Douglassville. He was the husband of Verna May (Conrad) Cleaver, with whom he shared 63 years of marriage.

Born in Reading on April 25, 1921, he was a son of the late Charles R. and Mabel P. (Wentzel) Cleaver.

Horace was a 1939 graduate of Oley Valley High School.

He was a member of Salem U.C.C., Oley.

Horace was a World War II Army Veteran serving in the Pacific Theatre where he received the Asiatic Theatre ribbon with two stars.

He was employed as a conductor for 36 years on the former Pennsylvania and Conrail Railroad retiring in 1982.

Horace was a member of the Boyertown Lodge 741, F+AM and the AASR Valley of Reading. He was also a lifetime member of the Oley Fire Company, and a member of the Oley American Legion Post 878.

Surviving is his sister Anna L. wife of Willard Hafer of Oley and a brother, Kenneth F. Cleaver of Blandon.

Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by siblings Helen Mae (Cleaver) Werner, Kathryn Cleaver and Charles R. Cleaver. .

Services are at the convenience of the family.
