Ingeborg “Inge” M. Shaner, 86, formerly of Douglass Township, Montgomery County, died July 25, 2024 in TheMeadows at Shannondell, Audubon, Montgomery County.
Born March 27, 1938 in Herdorf, Germany, Inge was the daughter of the late Willi and Elfriede (Schlosser) Link.
She was the widow of David Hafer Shaner, whom she married December 9, 1978.
Inge traveled by ship to the United States from Germany when she was twenty years old. She traveled alone and had difficulty communicating in English. After she was processed at Ellis Island, she traveled to Reading and worked for a doctor and his wife caring for their two children. From this job, she worked several other small jobs until she was hired by Lucent Technologies where she worked for 34 years.
Inge became a citizen of the United States on May 5, 1964. She continued to be proud of her German heritage and was a member of Evergreen Country Club, a club which shares German culture with its members. Inge’s honesty, hard work and determination allowed her to experience success as a citizen in this country.
Inge is survived by a brother, Bruno, husband of Karin Link of Malente, Germany. Other survivors include two nephews: Michael and Thomas Link, and two nieces: Angelika Link and Simone Tillmann, all living in Germany. She was predeceased by her younger brother, Herbert Link.
Services will be held privately.
Burial will be in Friedens Cemetery, Oley.
