James Schittler Obituary

James B. Schittler, 94, of Douglassville, passed away Tuesday, March 3rd, 2026, in his residence surrounded by his family. 

He was the loving husband of Goldie (Strunk) Schittler who he married April 28, 1962.

Born July 19, 1931, in Ruscombmanor Township, he was the son of the late Paul Schittler and Mabel (Fields) Schittler. 

James proudly served his country by joining the Army and being deployed during the Korean War. After returning home he worked for Boyertown Casket company as a spray painter for 28 years. After leaving the casket company he was employed by West Motor Freight as a mechanic for sixteen years and then by Klein Bus Tours in Douglassville as a mechanic for three years. 

In James’ free time he enjoyed golfing, hunting, and trout fishing. He was also a member of Friendship Hook & Ladder Fire Company and a social member of the Amity & Oley Fire Company. 

Surviving are five children: James Schittler, Agnes (Schwab) of Blandon, PA; Dennis Schittler, husband of Roxanne (Rahn) of Boyertown, PA; Tammy (Schittler) Gaspard, wife of Keith of Chester Springs, PA; Sandra (Schittler) Clark, wife of Marlin of Bechtelsville, PA; and Pamela (Schittler) Routhier of Muhlenberg. 

Nine grandchildren and many great grandchildren are also surviving. 

James leaves behind five siblings: George Schittler of Douglassville, PA; Susan (Schittler) Welsh, widow of Alfred of Boyertown, PA; Elsie (Schittler) Reinert, widow of Henry of Boyertown, PA; Katie (Schittler) Hartline, widow of Kermit of Orwigsburg, PA; and Nancy (Schittler) Schleicher, wife of Robert of Alburtis, PA. 

He was predeceased by one step-child, Elwood Turner Jr. and two siblings, Raymond Schittler, and Mabel (Schittler) Nester. 

Services will be private at the convenience of the family. 

In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Dementia Society of America.
