Janice Lee Svoboda

Janice Lee Svoboda, 80, of Blandon, passed away Wednesday, April 9, 2025 in her home surrounded by her loving family. 

She was the loving wife of Joseph Frank Svoboda, Sr. with whom she shared, what would've been, 60 wonderful years of marriage this year on September 18th.

Born August 3, 1944 in Omaha Nebraska, she was the daughter of the late Ernest Hovorka and Cecila (Obara). She attended South High School and graduated in 1962.

Janice dedicated her life to her family creating a lifetime of cherished memories, her family was the light of her life. She was raised in a family of Polka musicians, and was a passionate fan of the music. In her free time, Janice loved to read murder mysteries and do crossword puzzles. She loved socializing and was always the life of the party.

Surviving are four children: Jodi Madeira, wife of Frank, Lebanon, PA; Joseph Svoboda Jr., husband of Honey, Fleetwood, PA; Jeffrey Svoboda, husband of Rachel, Bernville, PA; and Jill Ryan, wife of Jeff, Mooresville, NC.

There are also four surviving siblings: Larry Hovorka, husband of Peggy of Omaha, NE; Richard Hovorka, husband of Tina of Omaha, NE; Diana Poquette, North Fort Myers, FL widow of Bill; and Lori Barchers, wife of Duff of Kansas City, MO. 

She is predeceased in death by two siblings, Ernest Hovorka Jr. (Sonny) and Shirley Work. 

Also surviving are her pride and joy, nine grandchildren, whom she loved with all her heart.

Stitzel Family Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., Laureldale, is in charge of arrangements.
