Jean (Jamee) Aimee (Bald) Haas of Trumansburg, NY, beloved wife of Kenneth Haas, passed away on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, in the Cardiac ICU at Rochester General Hospital, Rochester, NY, with her husband, her sister-in-law Louise and brother-in-law Michael at her side.
Born November 25, 1953, in Bryn Mawr, PA, she was the daughter of the late Arthur E. Bald, Jr. and Jean E. Pennock Bald and sister of the late Karen L. Mapes.
She is survived by her husband Kenneth C. Haas of Trumansburg, NY, sister-in-law Louise Haas Peters and husband Michael of Emmaus, PA, sister-in-law Lucille Haas Brosky and husband George of Bethlehem, PA, nephews George and Eric Brosky and cousins Peggy Banks and Sally Beta.
Jean was a 1971 graduate of Springfield High School in Delaware County, PA and later received her Bachelor of Arts in Art History from Kutztown University in Kutztown, PA.
She and Ken were married October 30, 1976, in Springfield, PA and shared almost 48 years of marriage. They lived in the Oley and Blandon, PA, areas until 2015 when she retired and they move to Trumansburg, NY.
Jean had a thirty-seven year career with Bank of Pennsylvania, which eventually merged with M&T Bank. She started as drive up window teller, served as a training instructor, rose to regional manager, then spent the last several years of her career as branch manager at several branches in the Reading, PA area. During her banking career she won several awards for outstanding service.
From 2004 to 2012 she and Ken were members of Spirit Of the Airwaves Players (S.O.A.P.), performing live reenactments of old time radio shows at events around the region, including the iconic World War II Weekend at the Mid Atlantic Air Museum in Reading, PA. Jean was one of two people tasked with creating and performing most of the sound effects needed to support Ken and the other voice performers during the live shows. The performances allowed her to dress in vintage clothing of the 1940s era, which she loved.
Jean retired from M&T bank in December 2013. She and Ken moved to Trumansburg, NY, in July of 2015 to a log home on an idyllic ten acre Finger Lakes region property with a large pond, woodlands, meadow and trails they later named Alder Pond.
Jean's passion during her retirement was undoubtedly her artwork. She excelled in multiple styles and media - abstracts and scenics in acrylic on canvas, as well as pastels, graphite, charcoal, Sumi-e, sanguine, colored pencil and scratchboard. Jean created an amazing amount of art and exhibited work at several businesses in the greater Ithaca area.
Jean loved her pets (especially the rescue cats who served as her art studio assistants), working in the gardens on her property, and growing orchids.
She found joy in simple pleasures: scenic car rides in upstate NY, walking on the beach, ice cream, eclectic music from the 1940s forward, 1970s muscle cars, watching NBA games on TV with her husband, and spending time at their hideaway home.
