Joan Marie Henry

Joan Marie Henry, 89, of Reading, passed away Monday, June 1, 2026, at St. Francis Home surrounded by her family. 

She was the widow of the love of her life, Donald J. Henry who passed away in 1994. 

Born August 27, 1936, in Reading, PA, she was the daughter of the late Paul Hunter and Minerva (Kehs) Pittenger. 

Joan was a 1954 graduate of Reading High School. During her time in high school she was a member of the Kenhorst Drum Corp. After graduating Joan spent many years being a mother and home keeper for her family. She then went into the banking industry as a bank clerk where she worked for a number of companies. Joan was in the banking industry for over 29 years and retired in 1996. 

In Joan’s free time she enjoyed reading all types of books and completing crossword puzzles. She also looked forward to going camping at state parks with her late husband, Donald. What brought her true joy was spending time with her family. Being able to attend family gatherings always brought a smile to her face. 

Surviving are four children: Michael Henry of Pittsburgh, PA; Joanne (Henry) Brouse, wife of Donald of Rockford, MI; Jeanne (Henry) Long, wife of Michael of Reading, PA; and Jeanette Henry, companion of Michael Murphy of Exeter Township. 

Also surviving are four grandchildren: Stephen Long; Jack Henry; Austin Henry; and Dana Brouse. She also leaves behind three great grandchildren: Cameron Long; Landon Long; and Zoe Long. 

A service will be held Monday, June 8, 2026, at 11 a.m. at the Stitzel Family Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc., Laureldale, 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale, PA 19605. A viewing will take place prior from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the same location. Burial will follow the service at Alsace Cemetery.
