John Robert Johnson

John Robert Johnson, 62, of Gilbertsville died unexpectedly at home on December 24, 2024. Born on January 5, 1962, he was the son of the late Robert G. Johnson and the recently deceased (5/21/25) Beatrice J. Johnson. 

Bob or Bobby, as many of us knew him growing up was a 1981 graduate of Boyertown Area High School. Immediately upon graduation he entered the U.S. Navy. He was stationed in San Diego and Japan while assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Midway. He served on the Midway until it was decommissioned in 1992. Tours included Japan, Thailand, various places throughout the Indian Ocean and the Western Pacific.

While still in high school and immediately following his time in the Navy he worked for Weis Markets in Gilbertsville. Later he worked for CTI Foods, King of Prussia, and most recently he was employed by Viant in Trappe, PA.

John, as he came to be known following his military service, enjoyed time with friends camping and attending car races. 

He is survived by his two sisters, Donna M. (Johnson) House and her husband Christopher of Boyertown, and Joanne E. Johnson of Bechtelsville. John is also survived by his two nieces, Jessica Johnson and Jordyn (House) Hicks, wife of Matthew; one great-nephew, Everhett Hicks; aunts and uncles, cousins and their families, friends and colleagues. 

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 28, 2025 at Shepherd of the Hills Calvary Chapel in Bechtelsville, PA. The Rev. Scott Staub will preside.
