John Michael Mieczkowski, 76, of Oley, passed away May 15, 2024, in Reading Hospital.
Born at St Joseph’s Hospital, he was the son of the late John A. and Rita H. (Miller) Mieczkowski.
He was proud of his German/Polish/Russian heritage and devoted time and talent to the German and Polish community by holding several positions of office at the Reading Liederkranz for many years.
John was a teacher for the Berks County Intermediate Unit for approximately five years before spending most of his teaching career at Daniel Boone High School. After his retirement, he was employed by Quigley Bus Service and loved being with the children; he especially enjoyed the Amish and Mennonite boys and girls he transported.
John was a devoted father and enjoyed spending time with his children, Carly Anne, wife of Rudy Arce of Temple and John Ethan, husband of Lauren of Oley. He also enjoyed spending time with his lifelong love, Shelly A. (Pennock) Mieczkowski, of Laureldale. They spent many good times together with their children and were always there for each other, no matter what. He loved his children and always helped them to achieve their goals in life. He was fortunate enough to also have two grandchildren, Remy and Colt. John had five brothers, who were not only brothers, but the best of friends: Joseph E., husband of Chris of Gettysburg; Gary A., husband of Marci of Greely, CO; Alan P. of Mt Penn; and David, husband of Annette of Laureldale. He was preceded in death by his brother, Michael.
John was never a dog lover but, later in life, discovered his love for dogs, as there are multiple dogs in the family. John was also a devoted conservative and proud member of the NRA.
A man of deep faith and belief in others, John belonged to St. Catharine’s Parish, Mt. Penn, and also to many organizations, such as Oley Fire Company, Reading Liederkranz and the Evergreen Country Club, Victor Emmanuel, Spartaco, National Education Association, and many others.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at 11a.m. at St Catharine of Siena Chapel, 2427 Perkiomen Ave., Mount Penn.
A viewing will be held from 10-11a.m. in the chapel. Burial will be held privately at Gethsemane Cemetery.
