Joseph Craig Stemler, of Spring Township, died December 6, 2024 in Tower Health / Reading Hospital.
He was married April 30, 1966 to Elizabeth Ann (Hartman) Stemler, who died June 18, 2019.
Born in West Reading, PA on February 3, 1946, he was a son of the late Alton C., and Agnes I. (Clauss) Stemler.
Joe was a 1964 graduate of Reading High School and attended Kutztown State College.
He was employed 26 years as a service technician with Boscov’s, before retiring in 2011.
After retirement, Joe was employed with the Wilson (West Lawn) School District as a bus driver.
He was a member of West Lawn United Methodist Church, where he was a Sunday school teacher for over 30 years. He was also a Monday night watchman, prayer team participant, usher captain, and involved in West Lawn Wednesdays at the Church.
Joe was a former councilman for 18 years with West Lawn Borough Council.
He formerly served as a chief engineer, corporate secretary, and was in charge of Fire Prevention Week with the West Lawn / Wyomissing Hills Fire Company.
Joe also volunteered over 20 years of his time to the American Red Cross, where he was a CPR and First Aid Instructor and served as a past chairman of the disaster services team.
He is survived by his son, David J., husband of Robin A. (Lyon) Stemler of Sinking Spring.
Joe was also the proud grandfather of two grandsons: Connor H., husband of Ruth Stemler; and Ethan R. Stemler. Also, a soon expected 1st great -grandchild to Connor and Ruth.
Other survivors include his sister, Marilyn C. (Stemler), wife of Paul Eaken, of Shillington. Nephew Benjamin Eaken, wife Leah, niece Katie Eaken, husband Sabastian Molina, and nephew Patrick Eaken, wife Nadia.
A viewing will be held Friday, December 13th from 9:00 am – 11:00 am in West Lawn United Methodist Church, 15 Woodside Avenue, West Lawn, PA 19609.
Services will be held on Friday at 11:00 am in the Church.
Burial will be in Sinking Spring Cemetery.
