Kathleen A. Mertz

Kathleen Ann Mertz, 85, of Lehigh County and formerly of Berks County, died June 28, 2022 at ProMedica, Muhlenberg Township.

She was the widow of Robert Mertz who died in 2014.

Born May 14, 1937, in Reading, she was a daughter of the late Paul J. And Kathryn V. (Buckley) Malriat.

Kathleen was a 1955 graduate of Central Catholic High School.

She was employed as a secretary with Kutztown State College for a number of years, Carpenter Technology, Rodale Farms.

Kathleen was a pianist and organist and loved sewing, especially clothing for her children when they were younger.  She also loved the holidays and enjoyed entertaining.

She loved her dogs, Bailey and BoomBoom.

Surviving are her three children: Timothy L., husband of Doris A. Pfennig of Ruscombmanor Township; Marjory K. Pfennig of Spring Township; and Teresa A., wife of Philip I. Hope of Orefield; and her daughter-in-law, Pam Pfennig of Ruscombmanor Township.  

Also surviving are six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her son, Michael A. Pfennig on August 7, 2021 and by her grandson, Joseph A. Wehr on July 13, 2005.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, July 9th at 11a.m. at Stitzel Family Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc., 3300 Kutztown Road, Reading (Laureldale).  A visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m.  Burial will follow the service at Berks County Memorial Gardens, Maidencreek Township.
