Leonard “Sonny” Leroy Christman, 91, of Oley, passed away at the Reading Hospital on Friday, April 26, 2024. Born in Boyertown, on March 9, 1933, he was a son of the late Nathan B. and Florence B. (Eddinger) Christman.
He was the widower of Carol E. (Krick) Christman. He attended grade school in Spangsville and earned a GED through the Army where he served during the Korean War. Leonard loved to keep active and was employed at shoe factories for a majority of his career, along with working many side jobs at grocery stores and paper delivery services. In his most recent employment, he served as a custodian at Oley Valley School District, leaving a lasting impact on the community. Leonard was an avid baseball fan, and there was nothing he enjoyed more than watching his beloved Phillies. One of his favorite activities was attending Reading Phillies games with his son Robert “Bobby” and playing in his fastpitch softball league.
Surviving are 5 children and daughter-in-law: Leonard “Lenny” Christman Jr., husband of Deanna (Rindge) of Marathon, New York; Karen (Cassidy) Christman of Blandon; Suzanne L. (Christman), wife of Randel Mest of Trout Run, PA; Carol D. Kneeream, fiancée of George Broadfoot of Lititz; James R. Christman, husband of Mary A. (Atwood) Oley; and Charles E. Christman, husband of Mary Beth (Conway) of Muhlenberg Township. He is also survived by his 16 loving grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his son, Robert C.“Bobby” Christman, and his five siblings; Willard “Billy” Christman, Harold Christman, Helen Smith, Sarah Endy, and Grace “Tuttie” Herb.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 3, 2024, at the Stitzel Family Funeral Home & Crematory, 423 Main Street, Oley 19547, with a visitation from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM, and services beginning at 12:00 PM. The burial will take place at Lobachsville Cemetery, Oley.
