Obituary

Lino DeSantis, 79, of Temple, died April 15, 2021 at Penn State Health - St. Joseph, Bern Township.
He was the widower of Suzanne Marie (Mull) DeSantis, who died December 31, 2015.
Born, March 29, 1942, in Ascoli Piceno, Italy, he was a son of the late Guido and Adalgisa (Amadio) DeSantis.
Lino came to the United States in November of 1963 with his parents and one brother. He, along with his father and brother, built DeSantis Brothers Mushrooms, where he worked for 34 years until retiring in 1998.
Before coming to the United States he was a carabiniere in the Italian army and enjoyed traveling throughout Italy with his battalion.
Lino was a member of St. Marco Society, Temple, for over 40 years and served on the board of directors as well as the Sergeant of Arms. At St. Marco, Lino enjoyed meeting with his friends to play Italian card games and socialize. He was also a founding member of St. Marco's annual food festival where he enjoyed assisting with food preparations and participating in bocce tournaments.
He was a member of Holy Guardian Angels R.C. Church, Hyde Park.
Lino was an avid hunter. He hunted deer locally and had the fortune to hunt brown/black bears in British Columbia, Canada.
He kept in close contact with his family in Italy and would often travel to see them.
Lino enjoyed traveling. He spent many vacations golfing in Hilton Head, South Carolina, with his St. Marco family. He also joined his daughter in Spain for a week during her study abroad year.
After retiring, he and his wife began selling PA Dutch and Italian baked items under S & L Bakery until 2015.
Lino often visited his daughter when she lived in the Finger Lakes region of NY and got to know the Italian community there.
Most recently, he and his companion of 3 years, Rose Rossi of Reading, spent their time watching sports and movies, enjoying different restaurants, and taking day trips. Lino was especially fond of the movies on the Hallmark Channel.
Those that knew him well, knew that at least once a day he could be found at 5th Street Diner socializing with friends.
Over the last ten years Lino was able to spend quality time with his four furry grandchildren.
Surviving are his two daughters: Marisa S. DeSantis-Hayman, wife of Christopher J. Hayman of Ontelaunee Township; and Stefanie L. DeSantis of Temple.
Also surviving is his sister-in-law, Fede DeSantis, and his nieces and nephews: Carlo DeSantis, Marco DeSantis and Anna Maria DeSantis.
