Lois Kauffman Obituary

Lois May Kauffman, 88, a resident at Phoebe Berks, Wernersville, and formerly of Spring Township and Muhlenberg Park, died December 4, 2018 at Tower Health-Reading Hospital & Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family.

She was the wife of the late Norman L. Kauffman who died March 1, 1995.  They were married April 15, 1951.

Born March 17, 1930 in Johnson, NY, she was a daughter of the late Edward Earl and Nellie Beatrice (Goldsmith) Smith.

As an artist, Lois enjoyed painting.  Some of her artwork even hung in the hallways at Phoebe Berks.  She was affectionately known as the “Mahj Jongg Maven;” she loved both playing and teaching Mahj Jongg.

Lois also loved the beach, especially spending time with her family on Long Beach Island every summer.

Surviving are her four children: Cynthia K., wife of Richard W. Snyder of Cumru Township; Wendy K., wife of William C. Ulrich of Muhlenberg Township; Roger N., husband of Denise Kauffman of Leesport and Douglas E., husband of Tina Kauffman of Muhlenberg Township.

Other survivors include her five grandchildren: Michelle M., wife of Randy Heckman; Dena M., wife of Steven Kraus; Jenny L., wife of Corey Maurer; Marissa L., wife of David Horton; and Morgan M. Kauffman and her six great grandchildren, Brody, Alex, Logan, Olivia, Brooke and Lindsey.

A Memorial Service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Stitzel Family Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc., 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale.  A visitation will be held from 9-11 a.m.  Burial will be private in Good Shepherd Cemetery, Muhlenberg Township.
