Maria Diaz

Maria Diaz, 98, of Reading, passed away Thursday, April 30, 2026, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. 

She was the widow of Manuel Antonio Portes. 

Born November 1, 1927, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, she was the daughter of the late Santanino Diaz and Francisca (Almonte) Diaz. 

Maria had a strong faith in the lord and in her free time she enjoyed reading the Bible. She loved to travel back to the Punta Cana to soak up the sun and swim in the ocean. Maria always had a smile on her face and brought happiness to everyone she encountered. 

Surviving are thirteen children: Jacob; Dominga; Alejandro; Diego; Ines; Menzo; Agueda; Severino; Francico; Noemi; Aminada; Mercede; Diojene. 

Also surviving are 37 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren. 

A viewing will be held Saturday, May 2nd, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Laureldale Cemetery Chapel, 4631 Pottsville Pike, Reading, PA 19605. A service will follow in the Chapel at 11 a.m. The committal service will be at 12 pm at Laureldale Cemetery. 

Pastor Seberiano Portes will be officiating the service.
