Marie Anne D'Amico, 68, formerly of Alsace Township, died peacefully Monday, November 22, 2021, in Penn State Health St. Joseph Medical Center after battling Alzheimer’s for more than 9 years.
She was the beloved wife of Carmello J. D'Amico, Jr., who died March 31, 2016. They were married August 4, 1991.
Born in Reading, she was the daughter of the late Leon Joseph and Esther Mary (Miles) Grundowski.
Marie was a graduate of Holy Name High School, and she also attended Penn State Berks Campus.
She was employed as a real estate agent, and later as environmental design consultant. She loved having summer picnics, celebrating holidays with family, and enjoying music and nature. She was an avid scrapbooker, very creative and enjoyed doing a variety of crafts which she lovingly shared with others. A visit to “Aunt Marie” or “Grandma” was sure to be entertaining as she made sure the kids had lots of fun things to do. Marie especially loved to dress up at Easter as a bunny and visit children and senior citizens.
Marie is survived by four stepchildren; Alvina D'Amico, of Reading; Carlyn D'Amico, of Reading; Alicia, wife of Mark Steffy, of Ephrata; and Dean, husband of Marisa D'Amico, of Irvine, CA. She is also survived by four step-grandchildren; Jullianne Bonifacio, Timothy Sheaffer, Jr., Allen Steffy, and Brandon D'Amico; and four step great-grandchildren; Isabella Bonifacio, Alyssa Bonifacio, Ethan Sheaffer, and Reece Sheaffer, Liliana Steffy, Andrew Steffy. Six siblings; Fr. Francis Michael Grundowski, Reading; Joseph Edward Grundowski, Phoenix, AZ; Barbara Anne (Grundowski), wife of Henry James Forlini,Georgetown, DE; Mary Theresa (Grundowski), wife of Alfred Vanim, Sinking Spring; John Paul Grundowski, Allentown; and Robert Mark, husband of Michelle Grundowski, Carlisle, PA also survive her.
In addition to her parents, Marie was predeceased by her brother, Leo Thomas Grundowski.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 1, 2021, at 10 A.M., at Stitzel Family Funeral Homes, 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale, PA 19605. Burial will follow in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. A viewing will be held Tuesday, November 30, 2021, from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., and again Wednesday morning from 9 A.M. to 10 A.M in the funeral home at the above address.
