Michael Richard Hill, 75, of Cumru Township, died December 2, 2021 at Tower Health – Reading Hospital, West Reading, with his wife and daughter by his side. His last conscious moments last week, were with his entire family.
He was the loving husband of Judith Jo (Dresher) Hill, with whom he shared 52 years of marriage, or as he said: All My Life!
Born, June 17, 1946, in Reading, he was son of the late Richard Franklin and Helen Irene (Twardowski) Hill.
Michael was a 1964 graduate of Governor Mifflin High School; he was a proud part of “The Kenhorst Boys Crew”. Then went on to earn his Undergraduate Degree, in Early Childhood Education, from West Chester University; and subsequently, earned his Master’s Degree, in Education, from Lehigh University.
He was employed as a teacher in the Governor Mifflin School District for 32 years, retiring in 2004. While there, he started teaching kindergarten at Brecknock but spent the majority of his career in 5B at the Intermediate School. He started the Civil War re-enactments and earned an Honorary Recognition from the late Senator Michael O'Pake
Michael was a member of St. John de la Salle R.C. Church, Shillington, and a former member of St. Anthony of Padua R.C. Church, Millmont.
Michael volunteered for years with Meals on Wheels.
A deep-sea fisherman; he won The Blue Marlin Open in 1984 with his father, an award he was immensely proud of. He enjoyed sharing his love of deep-sea fishing with Michele. He also loved hunting, and butchering deer, and most recently a bear, with his buddies, Kevin (Doc), Roger, Nubby, Cooper, and Garrett.
Mike played tackle on the GM Varsity football team.. He was the first person from Governor Mifflin to make the All-State football team. He also was a member of the Track and Field team, which dominated Counties, especially in his senior year. He was a lifeguard, taught swimming lessons, sharing his love of the water and Red Cross. He coached junior high pony football and baseball. He was a sports advocate.
Michael enjoyed watching football with his ‘Sunday Football Crew,’ Hags, Bob, Dennis, Jack, Frank, Brady,, and Lance (before he went to heaven. We know Lance is with him watching now). Lastly, his biggest joy in life was doting over his grandchildren; they were his life; he was their best friend. Shea is so grateful for him teaching how to shoot a bb gun; Teagan was his heart and soul, his very own "I Love Lucy."
Travel was one thing he often talked about, but rarely did. He did make a memorable trip to Poland with the Nawoczenski crew, 2 trips to Mexico with Judy, 1 with Michele, and a trip to Jamaica. He talked of Hawaii and Disney for the grand-kids first trip, but it was cancelled due to Covid. He and the family had many memorable trips to Stone Harbor.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, is his daughter, Michele (Hill) O’Brien, her significant other, Seth Roby of Mohnton; Seth, of whom Mike was so happy to have back in his life; his grandchildren, Teagan and Shea; and his sister, Elaine Ann (Hill) Koch of Kenhorst.
Other survivors include his many close family members, especially his nephews and niece: Eric, Albert, Paul and Jessica.
