Michael Leroy Stehman Sr., 79 of Wernersville passed away December 25, 2024 at the Reading Hospital, West Reading.
He was the husband of Charleen Helen (Fritz) Stehman with whom he celebrated 61 years of marriage in September.
Born October 13, 1945, in Reading, he was the son of Walter H. Stehman and Arlean (Gregro) Stehman.
Michael graduated 1965 from Reading High Evening School.
He had a love of trains from an early age and spent his days working for the Reading Railroad, Conrail and Septa before retirement. Michael also spent time “on the pizza trailers” for Berks pizza and selling electronics at John Wanamaker’s, where he would gladly meet you “at the Eagle”.
Michael continued his love of trains by volunteering at Reading Railroad Heritage Museum, also known as the Reading Company Technical and Historical Society. Michael was a roller coaster enthusiast and enjoyed amusement parks. Michael could be found on Wednesday mornings having breakfast with his railroad buddies at the diner.
Most of all, Michael was always there to help anyone who needed a hand.
He is survived by three children, Denise L. Stehman Frees, wife of Donald Frees, Reading, Michelle L., wife of Thomas Meneely, Reading and Michael L Stehman Jr., West Lawn.
He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Jeffrey L Heiser Jr., Jack M. Heiser, Joseph R. Heiser, Caitlin M. Heiser, Morgan E. Frees, Karley M. Frees, Shelby S. Meneely, Catherine A. Ewing and Bear S. Ewing and five great grandchildren.
Michael is survived by his brother David Gehr Sr., Muhlenberg Township, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Michael was predeceased in death by grandchild, Jarrid Meneely, brother Robert Gehr Sr. and his loyal canine companion Buddy who he spent many hours walking and visiting their friends throughout their community.
A visitation will be held Monday, January 6, from 10-11 am in the Chapel at Phoebe Berks in Wernersville.
A Memorial Service will follow at 11 am in the chapel.
