Paul Joseph Fern, 81, of Berwick, died April 30, 2023, in Bloomsburg Care and Rehabilitation Center.
He was the loving husband of Darlene M. (Himmelreich) Fern, with whom he shared almost 29 years of marriage.
Born August 12, 1941, in St. Peter’s Village, Chester County, he was a son of the late Charles Fern, Jr. and Anna T. (Bodor) Fern.
Paul was employed in management his entire career, working with various companies. He retired fro Berwick High School, where he worked as a custodian for 10 years.
A jack of all trades, he was most known for being a woodworker, a musician, and a storyteller. One of his favorite places to visit in the summer was Knoebels.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are his four children: Paul Jeffrey Fern of Pennsburg; Kim T. Fern; Shawn D. Fern, husband of Barb of Telford, PA; and Nathan L. Fern of PA; and three stepchildren: Lisa A. Bortz of Mertztown, Kelly M. Bortz of Ormond Beach, FL, and Scott A. Bortz of Shickshinny, PA.
Also surviving are his four grandchildren: Ashley Force, Eric Force, Levi Fern, and Raven Fern; six step grandchildren: Chad Hartberger, Darren Corozza, Gage Bortz, Anthony Day, Emily Fahringer and Grace Fahringer; and three step great grandchildren: Skyler, Jaxon and Veronica.
He is also survived by his two sisters, Christine Henry of Florida and Mary Bennett of Mechanicsburg.
Paul was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Fern.
Services will be held Saturday, May 6th at 10:30 a.m. at Stitzel Family Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc., 423 Main Street, Oley. A viewing will be held from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Burial will be at Berks County Memorial Gardens, Maidencreek Township.
