Paul Howard Kuehne, 87, passed away August 23, 2021 at the Reading Hospital. He was the husband of the late Helenirene Anne Kuehne, who passed away in February of 2021.
Born June 28, 1934 in the Philadelphia neighborhood of Fox Chase, he was the son of the late Paul Kuehne and Dorothy Hennig. Paul graduated from Lincoln High School.
Paul was best known as the owner of the Luppold Hardware store in the Borough of Laureldale. For forty years, in an era before Google and Youtube DIY videos, he provided not only hardware to customers, but also his knowledge and advice. He was proud that his small neighborhood hardware store continued to thrive even as big box hardware stores opened in the area. He retired from the store in the late 90s.
The Laureldale community was important to him. He served on the Laureldale Borough Council for nearly a decade and also coached little league baseball – winning two regional championships. Paul was a long-time member of Calvary Lutheran Church.
When not at the hardware store, Paul could be found gardening at his home or strolling the beaches of Brigantine. He had a love for travel, and could be found side-by-side with his wife exploring new places around the world.
He is survived by his son, John P., husband of Heather A. Kuehne of Philadelphia.
A joint Celebration of Life service will be held for both Paul and Helenirene Kuehne at Calvary Lutheran Church on September 10, 2021 at 6:00pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to: Calvary Lutheran Church - 1009 Elizabeth Ave, Reading, PA 19605.
