Raymond Leibold Obituary

Raymond Paul Leibold, 94 of Country Meadows of Wyomissing and formerly of Laureldale, PA died on April 16, 2018 in the Reading Hospital.

He was the husband of the late Grace Arlene (Jones) Leibold, who died January 2008.

Born February 13, 1924 in Newside, Lehigh County, PA, he was the son of the late Paul Oscar and Roma May (Layton) Leibold.

Raymond was a 1942 graduate of Muhlenberg High School.

He was employed by Bell Atlantic/Verizon as an Outside Plant Engineer for thirty years and an Outside Plant Planning Engineer for eight years, retiring in June 1984.

Raymond was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, Laureldale, PA

He was a member of Chandler Lodge #227 for over 60 years; Scottish Rite Mason, 32nd degree; Rajah Shriners of Reading; Schuylkill Shriners of Pottsville; Central Fire Company of Laureldale, Life Member of the National Rifle Association and a Member of the National Geographic Society. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and enjoyed watching the Philadelphia Phillies. He cherished his time hunting Whitetails in Juniata County, PA and hunting wild pheasants near Chrystal Cave, Berks County, PA. He enjoyed trout fishing and ice fishing but his main love was fishing for Shad on the Delaware River. He enjoyed working in his garden in Laureldale - Marglobe tomatoes and green peppers were his favorite yearly crops and  he always enjoyed a variety of roses. Raymond was very unhappy when GM stopped making Oldsmobiles.

Raymond spent most of his life living in Laureldale, PA until 2010, at his request, he moved into Country Meadows of Wyomissing, PA. He enjoyed over eight years there and was very pleased with the facility, people and especially the food. Raymond was PC literate, had an HP laptop and Apple IPad and spent countless hours on Facebook, Facetime and scanning thousands of 35 mm slides so that his family can enjoy digital images of his entire life.

Raymond served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater which included the Battle of the Bulge, where he earned a Battle Star. He was in the Asian Theater at the Philippine Island of Manila. Raymond was going through the Panama Canal when the first atomic bomb was dropped on  Hiroshima.

Raymond Leibold was a "Textbook Example" of "The Greatest Generation".

Surviving are three children; Scott A. Leibold, husband of Mary E. Shields of Murrysville, PA; Kevin R., husband of Kristie L. (Stepp) Leibold of New Cumberland, PA; and Raelene M. (Leibold), wife of David W. Erb of Exeter Township.

There are also two grandchildren, Kristin Erb and Darrin Erb who he enjoyed watching play softball, ice hockey, baseball and lacrosse. There is one great grandcson, Ethan Erb, son of Darrin and Allie(Tobias) Erb.

In addition there is one brother, Irvin H. Leibold of Slatington and two sisters, Hilda (Leibold) Palmer of Laureldale, PA and Irma (Leibold) Finn of Tuckerton, PA. He was predeceased by three brothers; Larwrence, Lloyd and Lester.

Services will he held Saturday, April 21st at 12 noon at Stitzel Family Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc., 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale.   A viewing will be held from 9:30-12 noon in the funeral home. Burial will be in Laureldale Cemetery, with full military honors.
